Cassia IT Leaders Honored with ESGR Patriot Awards

Posted on September 21, 2026

Three Cassia Information Technology leaders received Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Awards for their support of employees serving in the military. Michael recognized the three leaders for helping him balance military service, higher education, and his career at Cassia.

Michael thanked vice president of IT Jeff Wipf, director of support services Peter Yaeger, and help desk manager Tim Armstrong for hiring him and supporting him throughout his professional, personal, and military journey.

“Returning from deployment can be stressful, but they gave me an opportunity and have continued to support me ever since,” Michael says of Jeff, Peter, and Tim.

He says they have been flexible as he completes monthly drill weekends and annual training, providing continued encouragement when military responsibilities have required time away from the office.

“Whenever I’ve needed to step away for military duties, they’ve been very understanding and supportive,” Michael says. “One thing that really stands out, is how I’m treated when I return. I can leave to fulfill my responsibilities as a soldier and come back to work feeling welcomed and respected. They’ve never made me feel like my military obligations were a burden.”

Jeff Wipf: A Reflection of Cassia’s Core Values

Jeff doesn’t see the award as a merely personal honor, but as a statement about Cassia’s support of team members.

“Peter, Tim, and I have the opportunity to support our team members simply by living out Cassia’s core values in view of our team members,” Jeff says. “I would hope that every one of them would be able to say that they feel supported in the things that are important to them beyond Cassia.”

Jeff says employees who serve in the military must commit to their country, their home life, and Cassia, and it is important for Cassia to commit to them, as well.

“The person who commits to serve our country in very difficult and unknown circumstances is the same person who commits to the mission and values of Cassia,” Jeff says. “… Even though they are very different circumstances, these men and women approach them with the same mindset—100 percent commitment. So when you see that level of commitment, it is easy to support them.”

Regarding Michael, Jeff called him a shining star that he and Cassia are pleased to have on the team, even if his favorite team is the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tim Armstrong: Recognition of a Supportive Culture

Tim says the award is a reminder of the culture Cassia strives to create and that it means a great deal that Michael feels supported in balancing his military commitments, education, and career.

“Knowing that our efforts among IT leadership helped create an environment where he could continue serving his country while pursuing his degree is something I’m very proud of,” Tim says.

He has a personal connection to military service, as his daughter serves in the Air Force. He sees the level of sacrifice they make to balance military obligations, family responsibilities, education, and their civilian careers at the same time.

“From my perspective, employers have an important role to play in helping make that balance possible,” Tim says. “Whether someone is pursuing additional education, attending military training, or responding to a duty assignment, I believe they should know that their employer supports them and wants them to succeed in all aspects of their life.”

Like Jeff, Tim also sees parallels between Cassia’s values and support of employees.

“Some of Cassia’s core values are compassion, mutual respect, and the pursuit of excellence. All of these Cassia values tie into what made this nomination and award possible,” Tim says. “This award really is a reflection of a workplace culture that values service, personal growth, and supporting employees as they pursue meaningful goals.”

Peter Yaeger: A Humbling Surprise

Peter calls the award a tremendous honor and surprise.

“To be honored for IT and Cassia’s support of Michael’s service is humbling,” Peter says.

Part of that honor recognizes the ability to help employees like Michael balance their service with their career.

“I am thrilled that we have been able to add him to our team while allowing him the ability to serve our country and honor his commitment to the service,” Peter says. “We’re very proud of him and his service to our country. It’s our pleasure to be able to bend a little to allow him the opportunity to continue his military commitment.”

Michael’s appreciation for Cassia extends beyond the support he has received as a National Guard member. During his time with the organization, he has experienced several major life milestones while continuing to grow professionally.

In less than two years of working for Cassia he:

  • Completed his college degree.
  • Got married.
  • Purchased a home.
  • Prepared to welcome a baby.

He credits Cassia’s culture and colleagues for providing encouragement through major life milestones.

“They have gone above and beyond to support me, not only professionally, but personally as well,” Michael says.

He connects these experiences to Cassia’s Christian mission and people-centered culture.

“What I enjoy most about Cassia is the culture and people,” Michael says. “It’s a Christian-rooted environment that aligns with my values.

Michael says not every day is easy, but every day is worth it.

“The encouragement and positivity from colleagues makes even the tough days feel uplifting.”

The Patriot Awards recognize supervisors who go above and beyond to support members of the National Guard and Reserve. Through Michael’s nomination, Jeff, Peter, and Tim were recognized for helping one employee successfully balance service to his country, education, family life, and a growing career.

Thank you, Michael, for your service and for recognizing the leaders who have supported you along the way. We are proud of your accomplishments and grateful to have you as part of the Cassia team.
